Max Verstappen, the two-time Formula 1 World Drivers' Champion who has won a record 10 consecutive races, is 145 points ahead of his Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez
Verstappen is now the only other driver to win the championship.
To calculate Verstappen's "magic number," or the advantage needed to win a third world title, multiply 26 points (the maximum points earned in a standard weekend) by the number of rounds remaining and add 24 points (taking into account the 8 points the winner can earn in the three remaining sprint races (taking into account 8 points).
If he continues to win, Verstappen will be on the verge of clinching the championship at the Qatar Grand Prix on October 8 at the Lusail International Circuit (five rounds remaining). Verstappen clinched last year's title at the Japanese Grand Prix on October 9, 2022, with four races remaining, and in 2021 he won the title in a thrilling last-race, last-lap pass on Lewis Hamilton at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
